The Arqana August Yearling Sale features a catalogue of 355 blue-blooded colts and fillies as it returns to its regular slot in the calendar from Aug. 14-16 in Deauville. The first two days will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the final day, Monday, will start at 1 p.m. The sale has produced many stakes winners over the years including G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Sottsass (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}), and fellow Group 1 winners Skalleti (Fr) (Kendargent {Fr}), Sealiway (Fr) (Galiway {GB}), Wonderful Tonight (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}), and Uni (GB) (More Than Ready) among others.

In 2021, the catalogue boasts 19 siblings or half-siblings to Group 1 winners, and in Part I of the sale, over half of the yearlings selected are out of black-type mares and a quarter of the yearlings are siblings or half-siblings to group winners. Some of the best European and international sires are represented including: Galileo (Ire) (4), Dubawi (Ire) (7), Frankel (GB) (8), Kingman (GB), Invincible Spirit (Ire) (2), Siyouni (Fr) (22), Wootton Bassett (GB) (18), Dark Angel (Ire) (2), Camelot (GB) (8), Fastnet Rock (Aus) (1), Iffraaj (GB) (2), Kendargent (Fr) (2), Kodiac (GB) (11), Le Havre (Ire) (9), Lope De Vega (Ire) (11), Mehmas (Ire) (1), Night Of Thunder (Ire) (4), No Nay Never (10), and Sea The Stars (Ire) (12).

International sires are sprinkled throughout the catalogue, with some of the yearlings by such sires as American Pharoah (4), Kitten's Joy (2), American Pharoah (4), Into Mischief (1), Ghostzapper (1), Justify (1), Medaglia d'Oro (1), More Than Ready (1), and Lord Kanaloa (Jpn) (1). First-season sires are also well represented, with lots by the late Arrogate (1), Cloth Of Stars (Ire) (8), Cracksman (GB) (10), Harry Angel (Ire) (6), Mendelssohn (1), Roaring Lion (8), Saxon Warrior (Jpn) (8), Sioux Nation (1), US Navy Flag (4) and Zoustar (Aus) (6).

One of the choicest lots is lot 120, a filly by Galileo who is a half to G1 Epsom Derby hero Wings of Eagles (Fr) (Pour Moi {Ire}) offered by Haras de Montaigu. There is also another Galileo filly, consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux, who is a half-sister to Group 3 winner and dual Group 1-placed mare Wind Chimes (GB) (Mastercraftsman {Ire}) (lot 56); and a Galileo colt out of Wind Chimes herself as lot 114 from the Haras des Capucines draft. The Coulonces consignment offers the final Galileo in the sale, lot 166, a half-sister to two-time group winner Besharah (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), who also ran third in the G1 Cheveley Park S.

Lot 16, is an Elevage de Tourgeville-consigned half-sister by Frankel to G1 Prix Marcel Boussac scorer Lily's Candle (Fr) (Style Vendome {Fr}). Also selling are: a daughter of South African champion Just Sensual (SAf) (Dynasty {SAf}) by Frankel as lot 27 from Arcadia Elevage; Haras de Colleville's lot 31, a sister to Group 1-winning 2-year-old, Sealiway (Fr) (Galiway {GB}); lot 41, a colt by Frankel who is a half-brother to European champion Rip Van Winkle (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) from La Motteraye Consignment; lot 94, a Normandie Breeding-consigned Recorder (GB) half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Wonderful Tonight (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}); G1 French 1000 Guineas winner Dream and Do (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr})'s Ribchester (Ire) half-sister (lot 111) from the draft of Haras du Logis Saint Germain; lot 117, a Dubawi filly consigned by Haras de l'Hotellerie who is a half sister to G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Wonderment (Ire) (Camelot); a half-sister by Kingman (lot 142) to G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches winner Beauty Parlour (GB) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) from Baroda Stud; lot 149, a Coulonces-consigned full-brother by Kitten's Joy to Group 1 winner Henley's Joy; lot 148, a daughter of Dubawi out of G1 E.P. Taylor S. winner Blond Me (Ire) (Tamayuz {GB}) from La Motteraye Consignment; an Ecurie des Monceaux-consigned Siyouni filly (lot 133) who is a half-sister to G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere hero National Defense (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}); and lot 156 presented by Ecurie des Monceaux, a Kingman half-brother to Group 1 winners Jakkalberry (Ire) (Storming Home {GB}), Crackerjack King (Ire) (Shamardal), and Awelmarduk (Ire) (Almutawakel {GB}).

In 2020, the sale was moved to Sept. 9-11 and re-named the Deauville Select Sale due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 306 yearlings (73.5%) found new homes and grossed €37,137,500. The average was €121,364 and the median was €70,000. Back in 2019, the sale grossed €42,789,000, with 75% or 228 yearlings sold. The average was €187,671 and the median came in at €125,000.
